Electrical and Mechanical Services at Clifton Park

John Wright were delighted to have the opportunity to work on an array of electrical and mechanical engineering solutions for Clifton Park Hospital.Clifton Park is a 22-bed Women's Low Secure Unit (WLSU) specialising in providing inpatient mental health services. Their team of psychiatrists, nurses, pharmacists and occupational therapists provide high-quality care for patients with complex conditions and challenging behaviours.

We were required to install an array of safety and security measures in the facility, to provide both staff and patients peace of mind. Complex safety systems were a priority, so we installed the very latest in panic alarm systems and fingerprint technology for door access.

Clifton Park was designed with an anti-ligature focus, meaning that all furniture, fixtures and fittings must be secured safely, so it cannot be used to harm someone. Due to the anti-ligature nature, even sanitary ware has had to be designed and installed to be completely safe and secure. The sinks, showers and toilets, therefore, all have automatic controls, eliminating the need for buttons. We also installed secure ventilation and Air Handling Units, which were provided by local, independent companies. Light fixtures also had to comply with anti-ligature standards, so we used specialist safety fittings in the bedrooms and HF Fluorescent and LED fittings in the communal areas.

The heating installation utilised modern ceiling mounted panels to provide heating to bedrooms and circulation areas. We fitted Viessmann 225kW dual fuel boilers alongside a Building Management System (BMS) to control the building's heating, hot water, gas, water, fire alarm and windows systems.

The mains services were already on-site at Clifton Park, so we fixed a new 372m long 180mm MDPE gas pipe and a 90mm MDPE water service, alongside monitored metering back to the BMS. We also installed new fibre optic and Cat C cabling to accommodate the new data, Wi-Fi and CCTV systems back to the original Clifton House Building. New electrical distribution was fitted using both essential and non-essential supplies via a means of a new 130KVA generator back-up system, which is linked to the new panel. Both John Wright Electrical & Mechanical Services, and Clifton Park Hospital, are extremely pleased with project planning, onsite management and of course the overall quality and end result, all of which were achieved on time and budget. We wish staff, patients and visitors to Clifton Park all the best. To read more about our mechanical and engineering services, click here. https://www.johnwrightelectrical.co.uk/
